Mirzapur - News
History

Mirzapur gham was established by our ancestors in early 1866 AD when Maharao Shree Khengarji the third ruled Kutch and the Prime Minister then was Mirza Mia. During this time, so called the Ram Kund Sanyasi Baava used to live where Mirzapur stands now. The land here was fertile and the stream at present passing through Mirzapur had running water all year round and the place was used and maintained as parks and gardens by the Ram Kund Baavas. The land around this area was also very rich and fertile. They true Baavas have always believed in purity and they always loved greenery around them with lots of blooming flowers to offer to God. Mirza Mia, the then Prime Minister of Kutch, often visited the gardens with his wife.

Prime Minister Mirza Mia lived in a bungalow in Bungla Vaadi surrounded by beautiful gardens and rich farm land approximately half a mile to the north east of existing Mirzapur.

The residence bungalow was eventually demolished and the surrounding land turned into a proper farm which up until several years ago was owned by the late Mr. Ruda Lalji Amba Gondaria whose ancestors inherited this property probably by virtue of services to the Prime Minister or by a nominal purchase price.

The villages Fakirvaadi, Manukva, Naranpur, Meghpur, Kera, Baladia and Madhapur have Thakar Mandir so it is thought that these ghams were established before other ghams. From these ghams, Fakirvaadi no longer exists except a temple of Lord Shiva visited by tourists and local people.

Once wandering around with his wife in the beautiful gardens of Ram Kund Baavas, the Prime Minister said to his wife, ‘would it not be a good idea to establish a village here, where people from far can be brought here to work for the government and cultivate the surrounding land for farming. The land here is very rich and suitable for farming’. She welcomed the proposal and Mirza Mia brought the idea into action.

Visiting different villages, he asked different people to move to a new place where he would offer sufficient land free from any costs to build a house, but for some time his efforts were in vain as poor people would not trust him. He eventually met a Leva Patel Kanbi named Govind Bhaya Hirani in the village of Manukva. Govind Baapa consulted other family members and friends and formed a group.

The first people who came and established Mirzapur in 1886 AD were:

Sangha Mavji Hirani

Dharamshi Hirani
Kanji Hirani
Gopal Lalji Hirani
